Brīvības Apartamenti (Brīvības 46)

Art Nouveau charm, urban sophistication, proof of a good taste – it is a building in the very heart of Riga, on the corner of Brīvības and Dzirnavu streets, a fully renovated masterpiece of the Art Nouveau architecture. It was designed in 1907 by the outstanding architect Konstantīns Pēkšēns, giving the building cultivated forms and restrained elegance and harmoniously combining the beauty with function. It once served as a commercial building, accommodating a bank and shops, while ministers and diplomats resided in the apartments. The staircase of the building with its charmingly sumptuous Art Nouveau decorations - being one of the most expressive decorations in the residential house architecture of Riga – makes you believe that the flowers painted on the walls actually bloom and spread the aroma. The original interior decorations and paintings have been restored under the management of professional architects and designers. The high artistic value of the building also has been appreciated by the UNESCO experts, who have included it into the World Cultural Heritage list. The building, renovated in 2015, has become the Brīvība’s Apartments, retaining their historic charm in combination with quality modern conveniences.
