EUR 2 mln to be invested in multi-functional social service center in Riga

An advanced social service center is to be built in Riga in the coming years, and investments in the project are estimated around EUR 2 million.

The center will provide social services – both continuous and day care. It will have a hygiene center and a training center, certain medical facilities such as a massage room and a salt room, and will also perform the charity functions.

The social service center will be built under the agreement signed on September 17, 2015, in Bremen between the Samaritan organizations of Bremen and Riga, which will be financing the project with the help of some companies. The Riga City Council will not be providing money for the project, said Lita Brice, a spokeswoman for the city’s Welfare Department.

“A multi-functional social service center is a way to concentrate resources and save money while ensuring availability of specialists and diversity of social services,” said Andris Berzins, Director of the Latvian Samaritan Association.

Sketch drawings of the new center were presented at the meeting in the Riga City Council today, attended by the leadership of the city’s social service system, the Latvian Samaritan Association and the Workers Samaritan Union Bremen. Development of Riga’s social system, innovations and cooperation were also discussed during the meeting.
